Jobs
I guess it's time for me to get a job. (Everyone keeps reminding me) The only reason I want to get a job is so I'll have money to do whatever I want: buy magic cards, games, and anything else I want to buy. But, I'm not so sure I could do what Chelsee did. She could go to school and work, and still have time to hang out with her friends afterwards. School would be my biggest problem, because I'm still struggling to do that along with my game time. Maybe I should just write a book and get my money that way. I've been thinking of some different plots for a long time now. J.K. Rowling made a ton of money off her first six books. Maybe I could do some awesome trilogies or something like that. Maybe Dad could help me get it published when I'm done. I would be going away from all the stuff that I'm learning in school though. I don't think I'd be putting any math, engineering, or science in my book. The most important thing to me is a job where I can use my imagination. I have too many ideas in my head to do anything else.

I think writing is a really good idea for you, Geoff. It's nice to have some balance so you can do math and engineering and that stuff while you're at school, and then you could come home and write to exercise the creative part of your brain. I think you'd find it really rewarding, even more rewarding than playing games all the time. But don't stop your games all-together, because who will diligently save the world if you don't? That's right, no one. We're all counting on you.
Don't forget to make time for reading--I truly believe that to be a good writer, you need to be a good reader. (As evidenced by the fact that my writing has gone totally down hill since I got into medical school, because I don't really get to read that much outside of medical texts anymore).
I think it is important to find a job that you love. I absolutely LOVE cake decorating. It doesn't really use anything that I was studying in school, but I enjoy it. That is more important to me. The only problem will be if your goal is money, it takes a long time to write a good book. So, just don't give up if it starts taking you a lot longer then you thought.
I tend to think a job would distract too much from school work. There is also the problem of getting to and from work. Most jobs when you are 16 arn't very rewarding, such as working in fast food.
